We are Jesse & Mikala. We met at University studying Graphic Design and Photography and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

In 2010 we quit our jobs in Melbourne, Australia to travel the world. We explored 44 countries on 6 continents. Photography very quickly became the focus of our entire trip – the places we visited and what we planned to do each day (or didn’t plan!). Between us we took over 170,000 photos in the 18 months we were away. Needless to say, we have very muscular trigger fingers now.

During our global journey we were asked to photograph weddings in Italy and Switzerland. Since returning to Australia we haven’t stopped photographing weddings and love in all forms.

We both photograph 98% of the time with our Canon 5D Mark III bodies. We will be upgrading next year but are unsure of which body we will choose. Shotkit is high on our list for research and reading about the pros and cons of each body from professionals who use them daily – so thank you Mark and everyone involved on this awesome site. Mikala’s go-to lens is the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8, which she uses 75% of the day for most of the weddings she shoots. Mikala is great at capturing special emotional moments and is also a wonder when it comes to assembling detail shots. This lens suits her style perfectly and gives her some zoom to move. She also loves the Canon 85mm f/1.8 due to its petite size and weight but most of all great quality. It’s also faster than the 1.2, which suits how Mikala uses it.

My go-to lenses are the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM II. This lens gets me in so close to the action and emotion throughout an entire wedding day and has a stunning bokeh when zoomed in. I also use the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L quite a lot through every stage of the day, particularly for couple portraits and the reception dancing.

I prefer the Canon 85mm f/1.2L to the 1.8 (which Mikala loves) and don’t mind the weight. The superb quality output is the clincher for me. The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art has become an integral part of my wedding shoots over the past year. The clarity is outstanding and so is the size and weight. Also the way it renders background highlights is outstanding.

I’ve been using the DJI Mavic Pro over the past year and a half, which has ignited a new inspiration and motivation for capturing weddings. This drone enables me to view weddings, couples, venues and so much more from a completely fresh and epic perspective. The compact size is also perfect for taking overseas to destination weddings as it fits in my carry-on luggage.

Mikala uses the Canon 600EX-RT II Speedlite and I use the Canon 430EX II Speedlite. We both use the Magmod Magbounce, which is an absolute asset to how we shoot receptions.
