Ciao! I am Beatrice and I am an Italian wedding photographer based in Tuscany, in the countryside with a view of the hills.

My name, if pronounced in English, would sound like be-a-trice—be quick! I love this meaning, it’s all about my vision: the quickness of photography, the trice, the instant of a vision and feeling.

I strongly feel the truth of Bresson’s quote, “Photography is an immediate action, drawing an act of meditation.” It’s all about everyone’s history and culture and dreams, recapped in a photograph.

I studied Interior Design, then I worked as a craft designer. I needed the warmth, the aura and the transformation of materials in my hands. And I needed my ideas to become real faster.

I was interested in photography, this kind of visual means: during University I attended a lot of photography courses and I loved it. It was a similar but faster means of communication, allowing me to deal directly with the world, the situations and the energy of people.

I came to wedding photography by chance, thanks to a wedding photographer who asked me to be his second photographer for a wedding season. I am very curious and I enjoy challenges, so I accepted and this was the best choice.

The things I am most passionate about are real people and real moments. And those special things that are always around us. Life hides lot of treasures waiting to be discovered. Unfortunately, routine distracts us from their real value. My commitment is to catch those magical and extraordinary moments people create.

I believe in everyone’s energy and connection between people. This is why I think that my photography is not just my vision; it is how my soul and the client’s match one another, and how the clients believe in my work. If I feel I have complete freedom from the client, and the client feels free too, the best photography I can do will succeed. I also like to mix real life moments with a very few naturally posed, timeless portraits with a style that’s more on the nontraditional side.

I love contemporary art and this influences my work. I love traveling and discovering new places, people, traditions and cultures. If I had a lot of money I would travel all around the world and use my photography to share stories around the world through my eyes and soul.

I am not a technical addicted person. I quite hate technology. If I was great with film cameras I would be a film photographer. I truly believe that it’s the person that makes the photographs and not his gear. I am changing over and over again during the years based on my feelings and what I love to portray and not following the trends of the moment.

This is the best camera I’ve ever had. It has never failed me.

Canon 35mm f/1.4L II
My favorite lens, a true love affair with this dude. It changed the feel of my work. I used to have a Canon 28mm f/1.8 but wasn’t happy about the colours in low light and the little distortion on the corners. From one year on I’ve used my 35mm for 95% of my photos during the day. It could be my minimum requirement. I love to be in the scene, very close to subjects and details that attract my attention. The II series is fast and crisp (even if I sometimes use if on manual blurry focus). Its depth of field is stunning.

Canon 50mm f/1.2L
I use it very rarely. It’s my second go-to lens for just all those situations I can’t be close. Nothing else to say.

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8
Wide spaces, relaxing situations such as aperitifs when people just want to relax and not have someone around taking pictures, ceremony time if the church is very big, couples portraits in wide fields. It lets me create clean images with true perspective. I like pushing it at the 2.8 to create some interesting depth and the flare performance is great. It’s very big and heavy so I use it just when needed.

Canon 600EX II-RT
I use the flash just when needed because I always prefer to shoot with natural/available light. This is useful for dancing, if I want to create something different about movement or party lights.

Lomography Diana F+ Ilford HP5 400
I love this classic toy camera. I love its mood. It is anything but sharp and is prone to light leaks, but that’s all part of his charm. I take time to use it. It’s a slow-photography camera and I love to take photos during weddings that particularly inspire me. I started to take double exposure in my digital camera thanks to Diana.
