The Susan Sontag quotes are from a book that’s overall pretty anti-photography. Or, not anti-photography, but she’s warning us that to assume we can ‘capture’ the essence of existence in a two-dimensional photograph is to reduce and cheapen lived experience.

The quote in the hero image, “Today everything exists to end in a photograph” is a critique, not an inspiring statement.
From the same paragraph as that quote: “Needing to have reality confirmed and experience enhanced by photographs is an aesthetic consumerism to which everyone is now addicted. Industrial societies turn their citizens into image-junkies; it is the most irresistible form of mental pollution.”
